The struggle for independence has always been costly

Today is a memorable day in Lithuania. 32 years ago, in what is now a European state, there was an unsuccessful attempt to return Lithuania to the USSR by military means.
As a result of the assault by Soviet troops on the night of January 13 against the television center and some other objects in the capital of the free Republic of Lithuania, 14 civilians were killed and almost 800 civilians were injured. The assault of the Parliament by uninvited guests never succeeded: it was defended side by side with the Lithuanians, it was defended by volunteers from Ukraine, in particular students, thus supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lithuania, which can be seen in the photo, where the flag of Ukraine waved next to the Lithuanian flags.
Since then, the Republic of Lithuania celebrates this day as the Day of Defenders of Freedom. This is exactly what unites our nations - the desire for freedom.
Those January Events will forever remain on the pages of history and in the memory of their participants: 32 years ago, the Lithuanian people courageously defended their rights and aspirations for freedom and independence. Now, on the battlefield with the Russian aggressors, we are proving our ardent desire to defeat the enemy - after all, we are all on our own land! And only by uniting, as before, we are able to defeat the darkness!
Let’s honor the memory of those who died for independence and the bright future of our native state!
